The main project’s objective is to overcome barriers in the use of solar and biomass energy production technologies by providing examples of best practice as a viable alternative to gas and coal and as a sustainable way of Environment Protection and addressing energy supply problems in rural communities.

Specific Objectives:

  1. contribute to the implementation of the legislation and capacity building of local public administration (LPA) in the field of Renewable Energy sector;

  2. increase the responsibilities and commitment of the LPAs towards the approach to the usage of Renewable Energy and Environment Protection Strategies;

  3. conduct an awareness raising campaign among population and decision makers about the advantages for using solar and biomass energy for water and buildings’ heating;

  4. reduce the national dependence on the imported energy sources;

  5. promote public-private partnerships in order to develop the market for usage of  innovative technology;

  6. protect environment by reducing the CO² noxious emissions in the atmosphere;

  7. improve the studying and hygienic conditions in public facilities like schools, kindergartens and social care centres;

  8. disseminate and replicate the experience to other communities desiring to implement Renewable Energy technologies.

Beneficiaries:

Schools, hospital, kindergartens and social care centers from 78 localities from RM

Results:

  1. There were installed cumulatively 173 solar panel collectors (with 30 vacuum tubes each) at 39 public facilities.

Overview SWHS installed (annual values):

  • Collectors area - 718 m² (173 solar panels);

  • Boiler capacity – 27,5 tons;

  • Total annual field yield – 484 088 kWh;

  • Max. fuel savings – 16 440 m³/year (gas);

  • Max. energy savings – 382 294 kWh/year;

  • Max. reduction in CO2 emissions tons/year = 124,5 tons/year.

  1. There were installed 39 BBP of which:

  • 32 facilities were equipped with prefabricated turn-key Modular Biomass Boiler plants and;

  • 7 facilities were equipped with Biomass Boilers systems, incorporated in the existing boiler rooms.

  • Each facility was equipped with 2 biomass-burning boilers.

Overview BBP installed (annual values):

  • Total capacity of the BBPs (kW) – 10 127 kW;

  • Total heated area (m²) – about 121 500 m²;

  • Total annual field yield, (kWh) – 36 457 200 kWh;

  • Demand of biomass fuel (3750kcal/kg) – about 6 100 tons;

  • Substituted brown coal (3510 kcal/kg) – about 6 500 tons;

  • Max. reduction (avoided) in CO2 emissions tons/year = 9400 tons/year.
