The construction of the Ungheni Bypass is funded by the EU in the framework of the Programme Moldova Road Rehabilitation III. This programme is funded through the Neighbourhood Investment Facility (NIF) and is managed by the EBRD.

The Ungheni Bypass forms part of the R1 Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni Romanian border road. The length of the Bypass is 7 km and it will permit to accelerate access to the Romanian border from Chisinau. The Contract is implemented by OHL ZS (company from Czech Republic and Spain). The Contract was signed in March 2014, commencement date was 30 July 2014 and the planned completion date was 30 July 2016. The value of the Contract signed by the Moldovan State Road Administration (SRA) with OHL ZS was 10.7 M Euros.
